As you all know India is currently facing Border tension on both LAC & LOC side that’s why as rising security concerns, the Indian Army on Wednesday decided to ban 89 apps on both Android and iOS platforms for Indian Army soldiers and officers too. The 13-lakh strong Indian Army has been asked to delete these apps by July 15, exactly a month since the bloody clash between Indian and Chinese troops along the Line of Actual Control(LAC) in Galwan Valley near Ladakh. 20 troops, including an Indian commanding officer, were martial in the face-off in Galwan with China soldiers.
While these apps will still be available for the civilians, it is the Army personnel that won’t be able to access them anymore. The Army personnel have been asked to delete their accounts from the 89 banned apps, which include Facebook, ZOOM video call app, Instagram, Snapchat, Trucalller, and many more.

According to a report published in the Times of India, an army officer has said that this step has been taken because online surveillance by China and Pakistan has increased on military officers and soldiers through these apps. Significantly, in November, the army had instructed its staff not to use WhatsApp for official work. Also, Army officials present in important posts were asked to delete Facebook account.

Why Indian Army Banned/Deleted 89 apps ?
Many incidents of Honeytrap Happened in Indian Armed Forces
In the past years, such cases have come to light when the secret information was obtained from the military staff by getting trapped in Honey Trap by Pakistani agents as ‘women’. According to the recent order, in view of confidential information and national security, the Navy has also banned Facebook use of all its staff. Also, orders have been given not to carry smartphones on the Navy base. This decision was already taken in the Navy in the month of December.
There was relaxation with some restrictions so far
Significantly, till now the Indian Army had given permission to use Facebook with some restrictions to its staff. There were restrictions such as not posting a picture in the uniform and not disclosing the location of your unit. According to a report in the Times of India, due to the posting of confidential and sensitive information, many officers in the army have been court-martialed.
